Inquiry - VR Research

Today we had a special day because we got to use the VR systems to learn more about bridges. Yvonne and the research team came from the Augmented human lab at Auckland University to run some tests and use the VR systems to help us with our learning in the future. There were a majority of use so we got split into 2 different groups and got to do 2 different activities. The 2 different activities was using the VR cardboard and the magic window. The magic window was a fun activity and was something like a optical illusion. You are suppose to see a hidden image that's impossible to see with your eyes, but is possible through these special glasses. We were lucky enough to receive this opportunity and had an amazing time.

Careers

Today for Inquiry we discussed what we want to do in the future. We went on a website and picked the jobs we were most interested in. At the end it calculated which career most suits us the most. What first popped up was a navy sailor. You can get 109,000 per year if your a Warrant officer. We all had fun and enjoyed learning about what careers we wanted to pursue. We learnt that a job is something temporary that you do for money an a career is something you want to pursue for the rest of your life.

We added a picture of the 7 stars and Maori traditional foods such as boil up. We learnt that in the olden days they used the Matariki 7 stars in the sky to guide them through the pacific. We enjoyed learning about Matariki and are looking forward to learn more about the stars.

My group worked on Canada and we found a lot of interesting things about Canada and what they do differently from New Zealand. In Canadian another name for Santa is Joulupikki or Father frost. To show our learning we recorded our google drawing using screencastify. I worked on this DLO with Shannon, Joshua and Magenta.

Why it's great to be me?

It great to be me because I get to play in any sport competitions during my time at school. I'm still young and active, I am competitive sometimes even if it's not a game. Lastly it great to be me because I get to learn different things about history, culture, Maths,Reading,Writing and different types of sports. I found this easy because I had to technically describe my qualities and things about me.

Why is it so important to keep oral story telling alive?

Keeping Maori storytelling alive is important because it helps people remember their culture’s history. When each generation hears stories about it, it keeps them captivated.
Sanujan, San Kyaw and I created this 25 word summary using 6 words of our own choice. We listened to facts and reasons of why we should keep oral story telling alive and used the facts collaboratively to create this. We think story telling is important because it keeps children captivated when they hear about it.

Current Events

For Inquiry, Miki and I created a DLO about what has happened in the news recently.
This is a current event about the Chinese government banning the sales of ivory.
Miki and I think that this was a good decision because the
elephants might become instinct if the buying and selling of ivory will be allowed to continue.

Aucklanders being asked to conserve water

In inquiry we created a DLO about why people around Auckland are bring asked to
conserve water. We created this DLO to help people understand an important
message and also to save water. Aucklanders can help by saving 20 litres of water
for each person everyday. Conserve means saving or using a very little amount
of something. This means we have to save and use a little amount of water.

These pictures show the Omaru River and 2 volunteers clean and planting trees at Omaru River.  We need to stop littering because you can crate a blockage and turn Omaru River into stagnant water.

Agent of change

\
This is our DLO that Mataio, Fraiddon and I made. This is a DLO about how to
be a agent of change and what is a agent of change. This is important because
if people were still pouring poop and wees the marine life will die and
the ocean will be polluted. But the person who changed that is called a agent
of change.

A Giant Asteroid crashed into earth and killed dinosaurs.

Summarise the text in 25 words:

Pterodactyls
Lived

million
years
ago
but
now
continents
rearranged.
65
million
years

I wrote a key word summary about Pterodactyls' I learnt it was actually extinct before dinosaurs.Aslo
I learnt that they lived in every continent but now the continent is rearranged and now called Pangea.
I found it hard to write a summary because I was only allowed 25 words.
