sitting on the waka shaking in excitement, the waka sailed closer then I got frighten, I saw a island appear, I knew we were here, we all chanted hooray today was the day
Whakataka te hau ki te uru
Whakataka te hau ki te tonga
Kia mākinakina ki uta
Kia mātaratara ki tai
E hī ake ana te atakura
He tio, he huka, he hau hū
Tīhei mauri ora!
Translation
Cease the winds from the west
Cease the winds from the south
Let the breeze blow over the land
Let the breeze blow over the ocean
Let the red-tipped dawn come with a sharpened air.
A touch of frost, a promise of a glorious day.
Cease the winds from the south
Let the breeze blow over the land
Let the breeze blow over the ocean
Let the red-tipped dawn come with a sharpened air.
A touch of frost, a promise of a glorious day.
Hey Freeman!
ReplyDeleteSo awesome that you have joined the Winter Learning Journey these holidays, you have already completed a lot of the activities, and commented on other people's blogs too, nice work!
You've written a very thoughtful poem. I like that you have expressed emotions of both excitement and fright, but I can tell you would have been more excited than frightened if you had discovered New Zealand for the first time. How awesome would that be to be the first person to discover a new country?!
I see in your profile that you are Tongan but you were born in New Zealand. Have you ever been to visit Tonga? I went there when I was 16 for a week. I really loved it, I was invited to visit the princess of Tonga's house which was really beautiful and the Tongan people are so friendly and welcoming. I'd love to hear about your experiences if you have been there.
Keep up the great blogging Freeman!
Nicky :)
