Week 1 - Day 1 - Activity 1 Arriving in New Zealand

For this activity I have read a story about Maui and the giant fish. This story is about Maui pulling up a gigantic fish know as the north island of Aotearoa. The south island of Aotearoa is the canoe that he used to pull up the north island. Maui had also brought fire to the world and slowed the sun from making our days faster. I found this story interesting because I didn't know the north island was a fish and the south island was the canoe he used. Image result for Maui and the fish
  1.  Maui had used a Jaw Bone as a hook from his ancestor Murirangawhenua
  2. He used his blood from his nose as bait to catch the giant fish
  3. The North Island of New Zealand is a fish

  1. Kia Orana Freeman,
I really like how you have added a picture of Maui catching the giant fish. To me I found your third fact very interesting because I never knew that the North Island is the giant fish that Maui caught. Have you read this story before?

  3. Kia ora Freeman,

My name's Ruby and I'm one of the people who will be blogging with you this summer as part of the Summer Learning Journey. Great to see that you have made a good start on these activities.

These are three good facts about Maui. Well done! I thought it was interesting how Maui used the South Island as his canoe as well. Do you know how Aotearoa got its name?

It's great to see that you have heard of some other Maui stories. Do you have a favourite? I think that the story about Maui and the giant fish is my favourite because it talks about the land we live on now.

I look forward to reading more of your blog over summer.
    Cheers,
    Ruby.
